This series of painted photographs of the Trinidad Carnival grew from my fascination with the individual's expression of the body through the cultural spectacle of the Carnival. Each work presents the cacophany of movement, decoration, color, and exaltation that transforms the body into something Other. Shaking flesh, bursting out of its spangled, beaded and feathered outfits, transforms into an overall canvas of hyperactivity and celebration of the body, no matter how it fits into stereotypes of beauty. Abstract paint transforms the individual into the mass aesthetic entity that is the Carnival.
